LISTEN TO YOUR HEART
How this decision making app works in just 3 easy steps
STEP 1
DETECTING YOUR HEARTBEAT
The science behind Choice Compass is based on heartbeat patterns. These patterns reflect how the human body responds to conscious and subconscious feelings, including those related to decision making.
In order to measure your heartbeat patterns, Choice Compass uses either your smartphone’s camera itself or a compatible Bluetooth heart rate monitor (Polar, Elite HRV) to detect changes in the amount of blood flowing through your finger over time — these changes are related to your heartbeat patterns.
Choice Compass has algorithms that detect each heartbeat based on the variations in blood flow color. It then uses this to determine not only the average beats per minute (BPM), but the interval between beats, or the interbeat interval (IBI). It is the IBI that is of most interest to us as its patterns contain information about our body’s inner state.
STEP 2
LISTENING TO YOUR HEART
While your body is at rest, your heart will beat at a natural pace – typically between 60 to 100 beats per minute for adults. Research has shown that your heart rate speeds up and slows down as it rests, which correlates to your emotional state:
- A more rhythmic heartbeat pattern shows an inner state of calm and joy.
- A less rhythmic heartbeat pattern shows an inner state of stress, fear, or anger.
As you concentrate on each of two different choices for one minute (example: ask for a raise vs. switch jobs), Choice Compass detects your heartbeat patterns to help you learn what the right decision should be; i.e. what choice reflects the calm and joyful feelings that will benefit you.
STEP 3
HELP MAKING A DECISION
With Choice Compass, you compare two different scenarios to get hints about what your heart is truly telling you. As you concentrate on each of those scenarios, you’ll focus on the possible outcomes of each choice. Sometimes even just this focus on each choice in turn can help people sort things out.
But Choice Compass goes a step further to help point out which choice produces heartbeat patterns that most resemble a joyful choice, based on the heart rhythms of hundreds of testers!
I want to tell you how much I LOVE your app! I've used your app many different times. Most recently, when I was trying to decide on which job to take between two choices. It's nice to have come confirmation that I make the right choice.

I still can't believe an app like this actually works in measuring heart rate. I would have just blown it off as a scam or something. It made my day.
Grant, beta tester
I am still a bit blown away by your app. I want to learn more about this.
Sam B., heart perfusionist
I am really impressed how it was able to determine the more positive choice! I thought it was kind of gimmicky at first but that's amazing how accurate it was.
Michael C, beta tester
I am in shock at how effective the camera and flash have been in measuring my heart-rate. That amazed me and is something I never would have thought to be possible.
Michael W., beta tester
I wanted you to know this is amazing app! I will use this app all the time! I am slightly addicted!

It could tell the nuance in my differing anxiety about big life decisions. I’m not sure I liked having my heart weigh in so heavily, my mind used to be running the whole show. I didn’t expect it to be so sensitive and practical.

This app is tapping into a profound new way to make decisions that seem to get beyond my normal conscious process. Even if I don’t always ‘agree’ with it, the process itself gives me a moment to step outside my normal thinking.

The beauty of this app is that it allows you to look deeply into how you feel without being clouded up by over-thinking.

This app is great for helping onself to fully evaluate both sides of a decision and also in that it helps one to trust your own intuition about a situation. If you need validation to just confirm what you knew in your heart, this is a great method! Also, it brings to light that each person has the answer to a lot of their questions internally! Very cool.

My favorite thing about the app is the way it forces me to think for longer than I usually would about possible outcomes of my choices. Very interesting what comes into my head!
